HUNT EMPLOYEES EARN LEED CERTIFICATION

Hunt Building Company continues first LEED-certified Air Force housing development

EL PASO, TEXAS – (July 21, 2009) – Four employees with Hunt Building Company have received certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a voluntary national standard for measuring smart, green design practices. The program was launched by the U.S. Green Building Council as an initiative to protect the environment and energy resources.

Ben Mendoza, Robert Morgan, Rodolfo “Rudy” Barba and Mario Gonzales each have recently passed the LEED accreditation exam given by the Green Building Certification Institute. Currently, Hunt is building the largest LEED-certified housing project in the country at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. As of July 2009, 723 new LEED-certified housing units have been delivered, with 305 units still under construction. The new homes at Keesler are Energy Star compliant and incorporate “smart design” concepts, including technology, construction and maintenance features that help reduce the impact to the environment. The homes also cost less to operate and maintain.

All four Hunt Building employees will now add the LEED Accredited Professional (AP) acronym to their titles with the company.

Mendoza, with more than 23 years of experience in the construction industry, is a Quality Control Director for Hunt Building Company. He holds an Associates Degree in Architecture, a Bachelor of Arts degree in management, and is currently working towards a Masters in Business Administration degree.

In addition to serving with the U.S. Army, Morgan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University, and holds a Masters of Science degree in systems management from the University of Denver. Morgan is a Senior Estimator and has been with Hunt since 2003.

Barba, a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, has been with Hunt Building Company as a Senior Estimator since 2001.

Gonzales is also a Senior Estimator with Hunt Building Company, after earning his Bachelor of Science degree in building construction and environmental design from Texas A&M University.
