Our History

Since 1969, Hunt Companies has played a key role in shaping military housing across the U.S., evolving from a contractor to a full-service developer and owner. Through landmark projects, strategic partnerships, and ongoing innovation, we remain committed to providing quality housing solutions that support military communities nationwide.

Hunt Companies, Hunt Military Community’s parent company, signed the first military housing contract to construct 300 units of base housing at Holloman AFB in New Mexico
1973
Hunt Companies awarded a contract with the US Army for 1,000 housing units at Fort Hood
1985
Hunt Companies transitioned to contractor, developer, financer, and owner with award of first of six 801 military housing contracts totaling 3,170 units
1990
Hunt Companies secured the first and only 802 project for the construction of affordable housing on Marine Corps Base Hawaii
1996
U.S. Government launches the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI)
2000
Hunt Military Communities (HMC) established
2000
HMC awarded four MHPI projects, which included Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in California, and Naval Air Station Kingsville in Texas
2002
HMC selected by the Navy as the Master Developer for Ford Island in Hawaii
2007
HMC Awarded the largest United States Air Force MHPI project, located at three different military installations
2016
HMC acquired Forest City’s privatized military housing business
2020
HMC Implemented the National Defense Authorization Act and the Tenant Bill of Rights and Responsibilities
2021
HMC acquired Fort Sam Houston
2023
HMC implemented the Universal Lease across the portfolio
